TODAY IS THE NATIONAL MOON DAY

National Moon Day is celebrated every year on July 20th. The holiday commemorates the day the first man walked on the moon – July 20, 1969. Celebrate this significant period in American history with some of these fun Moon Crafts and Activities for Kids.

CRAFT FOR Yr.1 and Yr.2

MATERIALS THAT YOU WILL NEED TO DO THE CRAFT

• paper plate (plato de cartón)
• scissors (tijeras)
• paint (blue, grey, and yellow) (pintura azul, amarilla y gris)
• string or wool (cuerdecita o hilo)
• printer and paper (optional) (impresora y papel, opcional)

Instructions:

• Trace a moon shape onto the back of a paper plate. You can do this free hand or print out our template and cut out the moon we have provided to use as a tracer.

NOW! LOOK AT THE MOON EACH NIGHT AND SHADE THE CIRCLE WHAT THE MOON LOOKS LIKE EVERY NIGHT.  DRAW IT IN THIS CHART!

Ahora te toca buscar la luna todas las noches y dibujarla en la plantilla de aquí abajo.

CHALLENGE! CAN YOU ANSWER SOME OF THESE QUESTIONS?

• Look at the clocks in the illustrations. What times are shown? What is the difference between the times on each clock?
• Find out about animals that are nocturnal. What do they do at night time? What do they do during the day?
• Learn about shadows and how they are formed.
• The moon is shown in a number of the illustrations. Use a book about space to find out about the moon and how it affects us here on Earth.
• Look at the shape of Mr Bear's feet in the pictures. Can you find out about the footprints of different creatures? How are they similar/different?
• Draw a map that shows the layout of the Bears' house. Don't forget to include the garden and the car!

• Look at photographs of night-time scenes?

• Can you use these to draw/paint your own pictures of places at night?

• Can you draw some pictures of objects and their shadows?
• The book has black and white pictures as well as color illustrations. Can you draw your own black and white pictures?
